Public figures and politician

Politicians and Public Figures can speak their mind in public or private conversations. Discuss.

In a private conversation, we tend to speak what we want without thinking of any consequences. Usually this is done in a smaller group. However for a public figures and politicians to speak up their minds extra courage is required and bears the responsibility to face the consequences. At their position, speaking openly can be inappropriate. Take Stomp for an example. Everyone could upload pictures and videos. Such information can be publicised and became a topic of discussion. Everyone will start thinking and question why at their position they are speaking such thing. For politicians, publics will have doubts in them. Probably the next election they may not be a choice of support.

Speaking privately can result in a more drastic consequence compared to speaking in public. However, everything the politicians or public says in the public will be very open. The more they should not speak their minds out. Reason being, all they had said will be broadcasted in the public and sometimes internationally. This is when all the doubts and queries set in. Many will start thinking how come this country has such a government ruling them. Can they be trusted and invest in their country? It not only affects the people, it will also affect the country’s well being. Public figures have a high possibility of being quoted, and they might lose their business. The lack of credibility can be a huge obstacle in the future development if the organization.

In conclusion, regardless of whether you are speaking in the public or private conversations, be it the individual is a politician or public figures, they should be careful with the choice of words. But with the fact that we are all humans, it is a nature for us to speak up our mind, and it could be unfair to them. But in their position sacrifices have to be made at times. Therefore, a solution for them will be to prepare for an outcome and process their thoughts before anything could happen to them.

In 2006, one of my favourite people, R, sent me and three other favourite people, an email entitled "A Crumb Has Ruined My Life." A couple of days ago, we got "The Crumb, Part II."

Save me from myself.  

My room: littered with papers, pens, pencil shavings, bottle caps, days old Starbucks cups, highlighters, trident gum wrappers on the desk, floor, beside table, plates, utensils, sugar , remnants of food that I once enjoyed but did not make it fully to my mouth and now line the floor, desk, any place a crumb could find its way, it's there. 

Now for the clincher. 

Today: sit down to begin the tedious task of studying stats.  I open my books.  A crumb, or something that looks incredibly similar to a rolled oat, is found in between the  pages.  I pick it up and eat it.  I PICK IT UP AND EAT IT.  ONE SINGLE BLOODY ROLLED OAT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THERE FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG?!  Maybe it was still in there from one another stats student who, like me, likes to eat when studying, and accidently split his/her rolled oats.  In fact, maybe it wasn't a rolled oat.  Hell, its not like I examined it before I popped it in my mouth or anything.  no no.  My thought processes were as follows: Food.  Eat.  Now.  ONE SINGLE CRUMB and my life is now over as we know it.  I've gone to the dark side, show me thelight...soon... otherwise I fear the time of redemption is slowly closing and it may be too late for me.

 I was sitting on the couch yesterday, snacking on some delicious coconut shrimp.  I ate these with enthusiasm, dipping them delicately into a lovely spicy sauce, and lovingly eating them all. 

Then I realized that I had eaten them all. 

I was sad.  

Then I looked down and saw a little morsel had dropped onto my sweatpants.  

REJOICE!  

I eagerly picked up this left behind, but not forgotten crumb, and hurriedly stuffed him into my mouth to enjoy! 

...

....

Chewing... chewing.  

Ah, yes.  It was a pencil shaving.

What to do now?

I am a single white tenured male who is being bullied in a primarily all female department. I am a full professor, have a new book coming out next week, however have been called in my dean's office along with another female colleague of 3 years (I have been here 15 years) and had my course schedule changed to work primarily with freshmen... an insult in many cases. Today we did course evaluations and a student came to me and told me that both my dean and the other colleague had pulled them aside a told him to be certain about his narrative answers on the evaluations. He came to me with a "heads up" and told me he did not know what was going on, but I needed to look over my shoulder because he felt someone was out to get me. This guy is 40 years old and former military. So what do I do now?

For one person to just die by jumping off the platform isn’t this something we should think about? How could this man jump off the platform?

There are many possibilities for ones to just jump off the platform and die off just like that. Within years there are many cases of people jumping off the platform. It has resulted in many disruptions to the commuters. However, we had no clue so as to why this people jump. They could have borrowed money from the loan sharks or committing suicide due to side backs or depression or gaming or gambling. There was once a youth jump off from a HDB Flat. The reason they found was due to gaming. This boy was too engrossed with his game. He thought that he was in the game ended up jumping off from a certain level of the HDB flat with his friends. Their parents were very upsets as they can never get their child back. I feel that youngster died just like that was a pity. As they have many other things awaiting for them to do in the near future.

However, for this man to jump off the platform could have many possibilities. It may due to gambling, borrowing money from loan sharks or even due to fact that he might had suffered from depression. However, I understand that the government had built the Integrated Resorts as their main aim is to attract tourism. I am sure that every Singaporean who wants to enter the IR they need to make a payment of 100 dollars while it is free to foreigners. Why does the government come out with such a policy to their own citizens? I think that the reason is very simple as the government wants their Citizens to think twice before proceeding. To pay the 100 dollars they could have use it on other purposes. The Government rather not makes their business and allow them to think. The Government also allow their family members to black list their own members whom they do not want them to enter. Family Members have the right to ban their own members.

Jumping off the platform has created huge disruptions to the commuters. Therefore to prevent their commuters to jump off from the platform, they decided to pump in money to build barriers. This has been seen in many stations. They had place signs on the platform itself to remind the commuters to think twice before doing anything silly.

In my opinion I think that the government had done their best to make the citizens to be more aware of what they are doing and about to do. I think that more could be done. The government could paste up more poster and coming out with more educational videos to be played on the train to keep reminding them. Currently, on televisions programme we did see very meaningful advertisement being shown. They can even film as a show to show it to their citizens as through televisions programme we will be able to transmit the messages very effectively. The SMRT could hire more of the workers to standby on track despite for them to just on standby during the peak hours.

After so much, I think that is good everyone plays a part by realizing the importance of their love ones and consider what will happen to them after saying farewell to the world I am sure they will be the ones suffering. Let’s all make this a better place for our country our world and live life to the fullest!

The Anxiety of Influences

And WHY was I so predisposed to shopping? Probably because I've just finished Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, famed pen-name of British author Madeliene Wickham. I have been reading the Shopaholic books since 2000's Confessions of a Shopaholic and, --what I really want to write here is some sort of excuse as to why I would spend two days absorbed in chicklit. It's embarrassing, right?, to admit you enjoy such drivel. But I won't make excuses. I truly enjoy drivel-- Kinsella is a gifted comic writer. In addition, she is a clever person in general whose ability to market herself has me planning my own entry in the publishing industry.

According to Wikipedia, Kinsella graduated from New College, Oxford in 1990. She worked at at investment firm until the publication of her first novel, under her real name, when she was 24. After six pretty successful novels, "Wickham" sent the first Shopaholic book to her current publishers under the pseudonymous Kinsella and they jumped at promoting this new voice. Kinsella did not divulge her real identity until five years later.

Mini Shopaholic continues to follow the shopping-induced traumas of Rebecca Brandon (nee Bloomwood), who now has a two-year old daughter named Minnie and a birthday party to plan for her workaholic husband. It's great.

I gave up. I went shopping and spent $200 on jeans. There. I said it.

It took me six months to cave. In that time, I've not bought a thing to cover myself other than black tights and a shall while in Istanbul. I'm pretty proud of myself. But then, I went "Christmas Shopping" yesterday and somehow ended up in Holt's clutching a pair of Sevens. I'm done. & I'm going shopping on Boxing Day.
